The Agenda for this evening can be found in our wiki. For this meetup we have a special feature:

OpenStack is open source software for
building public and private clouds. It provides components for
computing, storage, networking and management, reaching from the
nitty-gritty details of running a cloud all the way to the end user
interface.

Why do we care? Because OpenStack is written in Python!

For this special meetup of the Python User Group Austria, we have
invited a guest speaker who will tell us more about the details of this
project.

If you happen to be in or around Vienna on Sunday, come and join us at the Metalab!

See you on Sunday!

Mike Müller will talk about IPython
and especially the
the new IPython notebook. IPython is a greatly enhanced alternative to
the
interactive Python prompt. The notebook allows to create interactive
documents in a
browser with markdown, Python code and matplotlib graphics. Even though
IPython is traditionally only widely used among scientists, it offers
interesting opportunities for all Python users.

Everybody who uses Python, plans to do so or is interested in learning more about the language is encouraged to participate.

While
the meeting language will be mainly German, English speakers are very
welcome. We will provide English interpretation if needed.
Food and soft drinks are provided. Please send a short confirmation mail to info@python-academy.de, so we can prepare appropriately.
Python Meeting Düsseldorf

The following text is in German, since we're announcing a regional user group meeting in Düsseldorf, Germany.

Telefon: +49 211 557310
http://www.duesseldorf.jugendherberge.de

Stick mitbringen.
Lightning Talk Anmeldung bitte formlos per EMail an info@pyddf.de

Kostenbeteiligung

Meeting Anmeldung bitte formlos per EMail an info@pyddf.de
We have been meeting ever since, regularly once a month. We only replaced the meeting three times in 2006 and 2007 with our workshop, a 50-people conference-like event, and 2011 with the first PyCon DE that we organized.

We had numerous presentations at our meetings. There are all mentioned in the User Group archives.
Since 2008 we have been running a booth at Chemnitzer Linux Tage, a local Linux fest, and will be there the fifth time this year.

We developed a stable core of members and even made it through strenuous process of organizing the first PyCon DE 2011 and do it again this year for PyCon DE 2012. Not too bad for a local group of Pythonistas.

I think we also have impact on the German speaking Python community way outside our local reach. Only the fact that we meet regularly can inspire others elsewhere to do the same. After all, there are only a few German speaking user groups, so every single one counts even more.

Actually, it is not too difficult to get started. Choose a location and a regular date and announce the meeting. Just do it regularly even though there are only a couple of people at the meeting. There will be more after the first year of regular meetings.

We are planning new activities in the future and will put more time into them after PyCon DE 2012, which naturally absorbers lots of our community energy. You will hear more from us if you hang around in the Python community.Mike Müllerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15418113987963668896noreply@blogger.com0
